Foster

Why foster?

Fostering rabbits is a win-win situation that benefits everyone involved. It helps Friends of Rabbits maintain levels of rabbits at HQ and accept more rabbits to be rescued. Secondly, it allows the rabbits to live in a real home while they wait for adoption. Third, foster parents gain the joy and pleasure of helping an animal in need.

  • Increases a rabbit’s chance of getting adopted: since foster families can learn more about the pet’s personality, they can teach them house manners and other behavioral tricks to help them get adopted faster.
  • Improves a rabbit’s social skills: many abandoned rabbits have been without a human family for months or even never. Fearfulness can show up as shyness or aggression. Being in contact with known humans and strangers will help your foster bun learn how to socialize.
  • Saves a rabbit’s life: with thousands of rabbits being killed by shelters, breeder rejections, hoarders, and uncaring pet purchases across the country, fostering a rabbit can save their lives and give them a second chance in life.

We only ask of your time, love, patience, and space.

Luckily, becoming a foster parent is relatively simple:

  1. Fill out a foster application
  2. Once you have filled out the foster application, our foster vetter will be in touch to interview you and your family.
  3. After foster approval, we will set up an appointment with you to help you find the right rabbit(s) for you.
  4. Pick up your new foster to bring them home along with any supplies you may need.
